In Our Care
“In Our Care” Natswim mural, Port Lincoln.
Artist Statement;
This mural is inspired by the vibrant underwater world we are lucky to live alongside here on the Eyre Peninsula, a world we love, share, and are responsible for protecting.
Featuring local marine life, sea plants, and flowing ocean currents, the design celebrates the beauty and connection of our ocean ecosystem. After recent algae blooms across our state, we’re reminded just how delicate this environment is. Imagining our waters without the humpback whale, dolphins, stingrays, tuna, or seahorses feels like an unimaginable loss — so their presence here is both a celebration and a quiet reminder of their fragility.
The marine creatures are painted as soft navy outlines, allowing colour, light, and movement to take centre stage. The flowing currents symbolise movement, connection, and life itself — carrying warmth, energy, and nutrients, just as they guide marine life through the ocean.
By weaving these currents with local species and underwater flora, the mural reflects a simple idea: everything in the ocean is connected. When we learn to understand and respect the water, we also learn to care for the life it holds.
As a space where people build confidence in the water, this mural gently reinforces that enjoying the ocean also means protecting it. It’s designed to feel warm, inviting, and full of wonder — encouraging the community to feel at home in the water while appreciating the precious world beneath the surface.
